The School Kitchen
Diet plays an essential part in your child’s life. Here at North Somercotes CE Primary School we are passionate about serving our pupils fresh, tasty, nutritionally balanced meals.
Our menus offers a combination of traditional and international dishes served with seasonal vegetables. We also have a salad with a choice of six different salads daily. Fruit is always available, alongside delicious homemade bread, organic milk and yogurt. Our lighter option has proved extremely popular with homemade soup and a delicious range of salads accompanying the sandwich of the day.
Our ethos is that lunchtime is a happy and sociable time and the children are encouraged to enjoy a calm and unhurried meal. All lunchtime staff are trained in food hygiene and are active in encouraging the children to try new foods.
Children in reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are eligible for Universal Infant Free School Meals and we encourage all children in these classes to have a school lunch.
We want all children to have an open mind about food, our menus are designed to tempt all ages to try new and exciting foods. Please help us by encouraging your child to try different foods, including vegetables, salads and fruit.

We have achieved the Food for Life Partnership Silver Award for the quality of our food and food education and we host visits from many other local schools seeking to view best practice.
